Shanee Cummins -  Visual Arts

My name is Shanee Cox Cummins, I teach Visual Arts at Scott High School. I am originally from Ross, Ohio, where I attended Elda Elementary and Ross Middle School until the 6th grade. I moved to Kentucky when I was 12, I attended Whitley Co. Middle School my 7th and 8th grade years. I attended Whitley Co. High School 9-12, where I graduated from in 1983. I received the Senior Art Award from Whitley Co. I started college in spring of 83 at Cumberland College (I was 17 years old when I started college), I competed for the Cumberland College Judo Team from 1983-1987, during this time I was KY State Judo Champion and I won two Bronze medals in the 1987 National Judo Championships. I obtained my BS degree in 1987; I majored in Art and Education with a minor in Psychology. I was the Art Editor for the CC school newspaper during my senior year in 1987. Art has always been my passion sense I was a young child. I did my student teaching in Corbin KY as an art instructor at Corbin High School in 1987. I worked for the Whitley Co School System until 1991 when I moved to San Diego California, and my daughter (first child) Lateesha was born in May of 1991. I returned to Williamsburg KY in 1992, and my son Braxton was born in November of 1992. I started teaching at Scott High School in 1994, and I completed my masters degree at Cumberland College in 1995 majoring in Special Education. I returned to Cumberland College and completed my Masters+ 45 degree in Principalship in 1998. I earned my Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership at TTU in 2008, Art is my hobby and my job; I guess you could say I get payed for my hobby. I enjoy teaching, and consider myself fortunate to have a career doing what I love to do.
