DECA is a nationally recognized career and technical student organization that prepares high school and college students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Through classroom integration, competitive events, and leadership development, DECA connects academic learning with real-world experience. Members gain valuable skills in communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and professional networking that support both college and career readiness.

DECA at Big Orange Hospitality Day

On September 11th, SHS DECA leaders and advisors attended the Big Orange Hospitality Day at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The University’s Department of Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management hosted the event. Students toured hotels, event venues, and local attractions across Knoxville, gaining behind-the-scenes exposure to hospitality operations. Over 26 industry partners participated, sharing career pathways and hosting networking sessions with students, advisors, and professionals alike.

Through this experience, DECA members were able to expand their professional networks, explore real-world career opportunities, and see firsthand how classroom lessons translate into industry practices, all while engaging with hospitality leaders and UT faculty.
