Praylee Burk with State Champion Award
Burk Named State Champion for Action Skills
Cosmetology student from Scott High School, Miss Praylee Burk recently was named "State Champion" for "Action Skills" at the SkillsUSA Career Technical Student Organization State Completions in Chattanooga, TN. The competitions in the SkillsUSA Championships are created and judged by industry to ensure that students are learning the real-world skills employers demand from entry-level professionals. These competitions represent some of the most highly skilled, in-demand skilled trade areas in the nation. Competition categories in Cosmetology included "Skilled and Technical" which is the category Miss Burk competed in. Participants in these competitions must meet the occupational training program eligibility requirements set forth in each competition description. In this category edibility is directly aligned to the occupational objectives of the competitor's program of study. The Action Skills, which Miss Burk was named "State Champion" in required a five-to seven- minute demonstration of an occupational skill in an area in which a student is training. Competitors use examples, experiments, displays, or practical operations to clearly explain their skill using competitor- prepared visual aids. Congratulations to Praylee Burk for being named State Champion in this category. Congratulations also go out to her teacher and CTSO sponsor, Ms. Kim Burke, Teacher Assistant Ms. April Davidson, and to Praylee's model, Miss Brooklyn Bolton.
